Tourism Asset Database

This tool begins to implement imperatives within the Statewide Resiliency Plan and Destination MT Division's Strategic Plan for tourism development, asset identification of gaps and opportunities, and helping communities grow more resilient economies.

The Tourism Asset Database collects information about tourism-related places and businesses across Montana from multiple sources – state tourism websites, OpenStreetMap, DMO websites, film databases and more.

  • Organizes data by tagging each asset (e.g., “Ski Hills,” “Restaurants,” “Hotels”)
  • Associates assets with nearby communities
  • Computes each community’s gap analysis score based on the variety and quantity of assets nearby
  • Visualizes results on interactive maps and comparison tools that surface where the largest asset gaps exist
